Electric Vehicles Must Also Be Inspected

PHNOM PENH: Senior Minister of Public Works, Sun Chanthol, stated that all vehicles are required to undergo inspection, including electric vehicles (EV), but that EVs can be inspected every four years.

Speaking at the opening for the Chheak Samrong Andet Inspection Center in Sen Sok, Senior Minister Sun Chanthol encouraged people to buy EVs as a new one cost as much as most used cars.

He said, "If I buy a new one I’m already saving money! If I buy a used one, it has to be checked every two years, but an EV won’t need to be inspected for another four years."

As of January 2023, Cambodia has nearly 800 EVs, ten times more than the 66 registered in 2021.

According to the Minister of Public Works, there are currently 13 power charging stations nationwide, including four at the Ministry of Public Works, one in Battambang, one in Siem Reap, one in Sihanoukville, one in Prey Sar, one in Mondulkiri, one in Aeon Sen Sok and three PTT gas stations in Phnom Penh.
